سوال ۱ کنکور ارشد علوم کامپیوتر ۱۴۰۵

The sentence defines what a server does — "to provide services to other computers." The noun that means the purpose or role something performs is function.

• trip — a journey; irrelevant here.
• position — a place or rank, not an action/purpose.
• function — the natural purpose or role of a thing; "the main function of X is to ..." is the standard collocation. ✓
• situation — a state of affairs, not a purpose.

Exam trick: When the blank is followed by "is to + verb" (describing what the subject does), the missing noun is almost always function, role, or purpose.
