We must simplify the ratio of two finite trigonometric sums with the same indices 1,2,…,6:
cosx+cos2x+⋯+cos6xsinx+sin2x+⋯+sin6x.
Pair terms symmetrically (sum-to-product)
Pair the first with the last, the second with the fifth, and the third with the fourth. Using sinA+sinB=2sin2A+Bcos2A−B, every pair shares the same half-sum 27x:
sinx+sin6x=2sin27xcos25x,
sin2x+sin5x=2sin27xcos23x,
sin3x+sin4x=2sin27xcos2x.
Adding,
numerator=2sin27x(cos25x+cos23x+cos2x).
Do the same for the cosines with cosA+cosB=2cos2A+Bcos2A−B:
denominator=2cos27x(cos25x+cos23x+cos2x).
Cancel the common factor
The bracketed sum is identical, so it cancels:
2cos27x(⋯)2sin27x(⋯)=cos27xsin27x=tan27x.
Closed-form check
With the Dirichlet-kernel sums ∑k=1nsinkx=sin2xsin2nxsin2(n+1)x and ∑k=1ncoskx=sin2xsin2nxcos2(n+1)x, for n=6 the ratio is cos27xsin27x=tan27x.
The answer is tan27x — option 4.
Exam trick: For ∑k=1ncoskx∑k=1nsinkx the result is always tan2(n+1)x. Here n=6, so tan27x — no need to evaluate the bulky cosine sum at all.
